February 8th 2006
Metallica came back from their much needed year long vacation and hit the ground running. Midway through the 2005 hiatus, Metallica surprised and excited fans world wide with the announcement of two hometown shows as special guests opening for the Rolling Stones at SBC Park in San Francisco, California on November 13 & 15, 2005. When November rolled around, antsy Metallica fans anxiously awaited news of the band and the upcoming shows. Metallica welcomed their fan base back with a video from Lars, pictures of the rehearsals leading up to the show and a last minute announcement of a Meet and Greet. The big dates finally arrived. Metallica played amazing shows. It was evident they were happy to be back on stage and performing for in their hometown.

What's next? A new album? A tour? To satisfy a need for news the band sent out a Holiday Video Greetings to their fans talking about the coming new year, hitting the studio and working on their next album. However, after the Christmas break, Metallica asked if going to South Africa would be considered a break from the studio and announced three big shows:

· Saturday March 18th - Supersport Park, Centurion 525.00 Rand
· Tuesday March 21st - ABSA Stadium, Durban 425.00 Rand
· Saturday March 25th - Green Point Stadium, Cape Town 525.00 Rand

While the excitement over these shows was still causing a buzz and speculations over when and if the new album was going to be recorded, Metallica unexpectedly and with extremely little warning, announced a private show after party for the premier of the Darwin Awards Movie at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah. A couple hundred very lucky Metallica fans won passes to the show, dropped everything to be at this exclusive show inside a very small club, O Harry's. Definitely a great way to ring in 2006!

So what? After South Africa will the band seclude itself in the studio for year dedicated to writing, recording and producing the new album… apparently not!! On February 7, 2006, Metallica announced the Escape From the Studio ’06 Tour! Dates are still being booked and the tour established. Thus far the tour will include:

· June 3 Nurburgring, GER - Rock Am Ring Festival
· June 4 Nurnberg, GER - Rock Im Park Festival
· June 8 Arnhem, HOL - Gelredome
· June 10 Donington UK - Download Festival
. June 11 Dublin IRE - Download Festival

In the midst of all the surprises shows and tour announcements, Metallica released Fan Can 5. The limited and much coveted can contains:

CD - the Fillmore songs fans are on for.

DVD - that's right, a DVD (sorry, VHS/video tape will not be available) - includes the entire performance from the parking lot at the Oakland Raiders AFC Championship game in January of 2003. The surprise gig in a flat-bed truck fired up the fans pre-game and cheered the Raiders on to victory. As bonus tracks, we've got part of the Re-Launch Party, a few songs from Kimo's, (sorry, Dead Kennedy Rolls will NOT be on the DVD) and two additional songs from the Fillmore!

SHIRT - A special collector's edition of the Fillmore T-shirt.

DOODAD - Metallica Carabiner keychain.

Suprises - Lucky Fan Can owners are reporting ticket stubs from the Fillmore shows and autographed cans.
