A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica is a two-part documentary about the process of making the Metallica album (or "The Black Album"), and the following tour.

Part One
Documents Metallica and Bob Rock recording the1991 smash hit, Metallica, the entire 9 month process from beginning to end.  Also included are the videos for Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, and Nothing Else Matters.

Part Two
The second part of the documentary follows Metallica on a 14-month stretch of the Wherever We May Roam Tour. Included on the video is live footage from Castle Donington, Moscow, San Francisco's Day on the Green, the Freddie Mercury Tribute, the Metallica/Guns tour, and various awards shows. Also included are the videos for Wherever I May Roam and Sad But True.
